Winter Break Schedule

The schedule for the rest of break is below. A few comments:

1) For days we are skiing at Como, please go directly to the golf course unless you need to pick up skis at school. This will minimize the need for extra drivers on those days. On those days, practice will begin around 9:15 and end around 11:00, so no need to be there right at 9:00. Just be ready to go at 9:15.

2) For days we are skiing elsewhere, we will need parent drivers. Battle Creek on Tuesday, Dec. 30 and Baker Park on Saturday, Jan. 3 are the biggest priorities. Battle Creek is the site of our Section meet, and Baker Park is the site of our Conference meet. Varsity skiers should attend those practices if at all possible.

3) Check the web site for updates

4) Please pass the word along to teammates! I don't have email addresses for a few team members, including Mable, Ryan, Bee, Xiong Mee, Josie, Gerson, Yara, and Dou.

Parents: please contact me if you are able to drive, and let me know how many skiers your vehicle can hold.

SKI CAMP DEPARTURE DELAYED!!!

From Coach Lageson...

Holiday Camp tomorrow.

Due to the likely weather conditions and roads, we are delaying our
departure to 9:00 am tomorrow. There may be further delays. Stay tuned.

This will give us time to assess the weather and road conditions before
starting out. I will talk to the Bus company at 7:30 to get their
professional opinion on whether we should delay further.

Other Holiday stuff.

Remember to bring a good lunch and full water bottle. Travel time is likely
to be longer due to the weather conditions.

Speaking of weather. The forecast is for cold and windy conditions at least
for the first two days of Holiday Camp. Make sure that you have enough warm
clothes. Remember that when you ski in cold weather, your clothing will be
wet when you come inside. You will need dry clothes to change into and
another set for the second workout. 2 sets of ski clothes, and warm clothes
for inside the cabin and playing outside.

Clothing List cold weather
Ski Clothes
Warm top and Bottom, layers work well. (Long underwear under tights with
wind layer at a minimum)
Snow boots
Neck Scarfs, Extra Hats, Mittens with wind layer, no gloves!!
Warm clothes for inside too.
Towel (Rainbow does not provide towels)
Extra Hangers (for drying stuff out)
Hand Warmers, Toe Warmers (Chemical heat packs available many places. REI,
Midwest, )

Monday Practice Plan

Como Park skiers should report to Mr. Leonard's room after school for practice. We will not be busing to the golf course.

This change is due to the forecasted low temperatures and high winds, plus questionable snow conditions.

Please bring any skis that need to be waxed, as well as indoor workout clothes for use in the weight room. Depending on how cold and windy it is, we may have a short session of skiing out on the soccer fields. However, our top priorities for practice will be waxing and working out indoors.

THURSDAY MEET CHANGE!!!

On Thursday, Dec. 11, the Como Park Nordic team will compete at Como Golf Course, and not at Trollhaugen.

Como Park Skiers Race at Hoigaards Relays

The Como Park Nordic ski team opened its season this morning at the Hoigaards Breadsmith Relays. In strong, cold winds and on an unfamiliar course, the 15 Como Park skiers competed very well. The race consisted of 4 legs of 3 kilometers each. Teams of 2, 3, or 4 members were permitted to compete. Many of the top schools in the metro area turned out to race.

A number of skiers did two legs, including Emma Lee and Leah Roth, who comprised a two-person team that took 8th place in the high school girls division. Rachel Lee, Matt Buechler, and Luke Rustad also skied two legs. The boys team of Rustad, Phil Kramer, and Jon Tetlie placed 8th in the high school boys division.

All-in-all it was a promising start to the season. The team has many strong veterans, as well as an up-and-coming group of underclassmen who will challenge their elders and provide great depth to the team.

Check out the second photo set HERE for photos of many of the athletes who skied. Team results will be posted there as well.
